DON'T YOU REMEMBER?

DON'T YOU REMEMBER? BY MEAGAN HENRY // ART BY GEORGIA O'KEEFE, HIBISCUS WITH PLUMERIA, 1939

“The work is the purpose and each is specific to the person. If you don’t do it, it’s as if a priceless golden vessel is used to hold the sewage . . . Give your life to the One who already owns it — who already owns your breaths and your moments.” — Rumi

I am merely a vessel through which the Universe seeks to experience itself — through each gorgeous perception, new sound, delicious taste, unifying touch. I am the Universe Itself, manifest from the exact same stuff — molded from that one original way. And yet, here I am, still just this precious little vessel, humbled before the intensity that is everything that owns me — that beautiful blinding brilliance that is the Universe Itself. I give this life to You!

I see that — She comes to me, and respectfully shows me our unity. She says, “Don’t you remember? This is who you absolutely are.” And then, she shows me the ways in which I am a mere vessel for her. She gives me the tools and the space to do the work. She helps me clean the sewage, the stale, the violent excess. She shows me all the purpose in this personality, this ego, doing this kind of work. I humble myself. I open myself. I let her teach me. I let her flow through me.

And so, my experience is one of a temporary, dual awareness within one, non-dual, infinite awareness: the experience of the vessel, and the experience of all which flows through the vessel. I both celebrate the joy of being a blinding brilliance, as well as humble myself before such beauty — I pray that I may remain surrendered enough to receive.

What a miraculous life this is.

Thank You!
